A Master Scuba Diver Trainer (PADI #57599) based in Columbia, Maryland, has logged over 3,000 dives in locations like the Bahamas, Belize, Hawaii, and Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay. With certifications since 1987, he excels in underwater navigation, wreck diving, coral reef conservation, and emergency first response. A skilled leader and communicator, Chuck is also a Dacor Regulator Technician and has worked commercially at Brighton and Wilde Lake Dams.

Beyond instruction, Chuck has served as a Dive Master on the Thunder Horse Dive Boat in Ocean City and contributed to underwater surveys, such as the U1105 off Piney Point. Recognized for excellence with a Certification of Recognition, Chuck combines practical experience with a passion for teaching and conservation. Whether leading dives, training students, or maintaining equipment, Chuck Thompson is a dedicated and versatile professional in the world of scuba diving.

After an awe-inspiring visit to the Underwater Observatory Marine Park in Eilat, Israel, I realized I wanted to explore the underwater world with the freedom only scuba diving could offer—gear in tow, of course! That same year, my wife and I took our first breaths underwater, earning our certifications under the expert guidance of Chuck Thompson (yep, the guy on my left, or above) at Columbia Scuba in Maryland. From 2016 - 2025, I’ve been teaching at Columbia Scuba, where I find immense joy in sharing my passion for scuba diving with students. As an instructor, I’m qualified to teach not only Open Water courses but also Advanced Open Water and a variety of specialty courses (e.g., underwater navigation, deep diving, and wreck diving, self-reliant diver). Whether guiding beginners through their first bubbles or helping seasoned divers master advanced techniques, I’m thrilled to pass on the knowledge and excitement that the scuba community have instilled in me.
